People are often wondering how much a DUI costs. It is a great question. There is no “one-answer-fits-all” scenario. It just depends on a lot of different factors.
As a DUI attorney I am often asked to speak at different civic groups about DUI laws. One of the topics people like to hear about is how much a DUI costs. The answer is that you will spend a lot of money no matter what route you take.
Let’s start with the first expense you might incur. That is bail. Some places require bail for a DUI offense. Others don’t. Depending on what your previous driving record is like bail could be large. You can either post it yourself or find a bail bondsman.
There are just all sorts of expenses from DUI attorney fees to cabs or Uber charges if you lose your license. There is increased insurance for many DUI offenses, probation fees, recoupment and court costs.
DUI attorney fees are going to depend on different factors. Is this your first DUI offense? That is a little less expensive than your third or fourth. Do you want a trial, did you take the breath test, do you need an ignition interlock device?
It is impossible to give anyone the exact answer to the question: How much will a DUI cost me? But you can rest assured that it is not going to make you happy.
I understand that you do not have a DUI attorney in your budget. I try to keep my fees reasonable, so that you can afford the best defense.
